TESTAMENT Frontman Says You Don't Have To Be A Metal Fan To Enjoy Band's Next Album
November 8, 2011Torrents of the "The Iron Forge" radio show, which airs Friday nights on 90.5 WASU, recently conducted an interview with vocalist Chuck Billy of San Francisco Bay Area metallers TESTAMENT. The chat can now be streamed in the YouTube clip below.
TESTAMENT's new album, "The Dark Roots Of Earth", is tentatively due in late April/early May 2012 via Nuclear Blast Records.
Commented Billy: "The new record that we're [recording], you don't just have to be a metal fan to enjoy the record that we're gonna be putting out next year. We wrote some really good songs, and I think that's a part of it having [most of] the [original lineup reunited] and the confidence and not being afraid to step out and try some other things and some new things. It's definitely classic TESTAMENT, but like I said, you wouldn't necessarily just have to be a metal to enjoy the songs; we really do have some really good songs that people would enjoy listening to because they are just good songs. I think having the original guys back together, it's all about the confidence and being able to venture out and do some other things."
TESTAMENT has tapped Gene "The Atomic Clock" Hoglan (ex-DARK ANGEL, ex-STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, FEAR FACTORY, DETHKLOK) to sit behind the kit for select dates on the ANTHRAX tour. Gene is performing with TESTAMENT from October 28 through November 13; the remainining dates will see TESTAMENT joined by John Tempesta (EXODUS, WHITE ZOMBIE, ROB ZOMBIE, HELMET, THE CULT).
Due to a "serious injury," regular TESTAMENT drummer Paul Bostaph is unable to take part in the tour. Paul was also absent from the recording sessions for "The Dark Roots Of Earth".
SADUS drummer Jon Allen sat behind the kit for TESTAMENT when the band performed in the place of IN FLAMES at the first two shows of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival on July 9 in San Bernardino, California and on July 10 in Mountain View, California as well as on the group's recently completed South American tour.
